What is a Drip Cap?

A drip cap is a vinyl or metal molding installed above windows and doors. It has a sloped or angled profile that extends slightly beyond the frame, allowing rainwater to drip off rather than run down into the structure.

Purpose
• Protects against water intrusion
• Prevents rot, mold, and structural damage
Where It's Used
• Above exterior windows and doors
• Can be required by building codes in many regions

Installation Notes
• Installed under the siding and over the window/door flange
• Should be pitched outward to shed water
• Often used in combination with house wrap and flashing tape for a watertight seal
